Juniper berry tincture is high quality & made with fresh berries from 'common juniper' (Juniperus communis). I forage these berries from areas around me. Strained 1/12/26.
Ingredients: fresh (rinsed!) juniper berries, menstruum is Everclear + spring water in 1:2, approx 55% ABV
Juniper berries are anti-fungal, warming & supportive for kidney/urinary issues. Some people swear by them for osteoarthritis - if you've ever heard of eating gin-soaked raisins for arthritis. Science says this is a myth, but people have their own real-life experiences that science can't always explain... I put juniper berry in my joint tincture so call me a believer:)
Juniper ramblings:
When I gather these berries, I have to do so carefully because I learned the hard way that the branches are LOADED with tiny spiders! Not realizing this in the past, I would cut down whole branches (they are invasive & grow like crazy in the spots I collect) and throw them in the backseat of my car. The whole car was crawling, and the tiny webs were everywhere! I'm not exaggerating when I say that one small branch of about 1' long could have a hundred tiny spiders... they seem to love juniper:) Juniper has one of the most mesmerizing flavors & scent. I would love to find some recipes to infuse that flavor into food somehow. I do believe I've seen a shortbread cookie where juniper was involved... seems like a good pairing:)
